Your reefer, at its set point, port to door.
We truck reefer containers between the ports and South Africa’s main centres on our own underslung gensets, so the set temperature stays stable from the moment we load until we offload. Pre-trip inspections, washing and 20 plug points wait at our depot.

Can’t find your answer? Our team is a phone call away.
Call 011 873 4786Do you supply the gensets?
Yes. We run our own fleet of 10 underslung reefer gensets, hung under the trailer, so the reefer unit has power from the moment we load until we offload. You don’t need to hire a genset for the road.
Will my set temperature hold on the road?
That’s the point of the service. Your reefer’s set temperature stays stable from the moment we load the container until its final offloading, wherever that is. Our gensets are maintained on a measured schedule, like our load-bearing equipment, and our controllers monitor the fleet around the clock.
Can the reefer cool my cargo down?
No, and no reefer is built to. A reefer container holds cargo at its set point; it can’t bring warm cargo down to it. Pre-cool the cargo to the set point before it’s loaded, and we keep it there.
What do you need from me?
The container, the set point (plus the fresh-air ventilation and humidity settings, if your cargo has them), where and when it loads, and where it delivers. For an import, the delivery order must name us as the transporter, SARS must have released the container and the port cargo dues must be paid. The reefer check above lists it for your move.
Do you do pre-trip inspections?
Yes. Shipping & General runs a newly built reefer workshop, washing and pre-trip inspection (PTI) facility. It is PPECB-certified and passed the 100% food-grade audit, and our IICL-certified team prepares, cleans and inspects the reefers.
My reefer arrives on a weekend. What happens?
We can stage it at our depot. It has 20 reefer plug points, so a reefer can stay powered over a weekend, a public holiday or for as long as you need, and our road haulage picks it up when you’re ready.
Which routes do you run?
We move reefer containers between South Africa’s coastal ports and its main city centres, including Durban’s port to Gauteng on the N3, from our depot in Germiston and our office in Greyville, Durban. Ask us about other routes.
Do you move exports to the port?
Yes. We deliver your loaded reefer to the port terminal with the set point held. Perishable exports need a PPECB inspection, which you or your forwarder book in time, along with the export documents.
Do you move dry containers too?
Yes. Dry and refrigerated containers go through the same depot. For dry full container loads on the N3, see our FCL service.
How much does it cost?
Every move is different, so we don’t publish prices. Answer the seven short questions in the quote form, add the reefer check if you have it, and our team calls you with a price for your actual move.
